Is my water fountain and fountain pump going to be difficult to maintain?

There are fewer things easier in life than maintaining a fountain. Smaller floor and tabletop fountains have very little setup, and once they’re turned on, there’s not much left to do.

The first thing VODA Water Features recommends is get to know your water fountain.  It may take a couple of days to get used to how your fountain operates.  Depending on the humidity and the size of the fountain it will not take too long before you figure out how much water it will use on a daily or weekly basis.  Maintaining a water level above the fountain’s pump is a crucial component to keeping the water flow consistent as well as maximizing the life of the water fountain pump.  Most fountain pumps are usually located in the reservoir or base of the water feature.  This allows for your feature to draw water from the bottom and continuously recycle which is referred to as self-contained.  Make sure the pump is completely submersed in the water while running to avoid motor damage.

Check your water fountain pump on an at least a monthly basis to make sure there is not a buildup of any sort occurring.  If there is a build up simply wipe clean unto debris is removed.  It is best to keep your new fountain running all of the time for optimal performance and functionality.

How do I take care of my indoor water fountain?
There's no strict guideline on when to clean your indoor fountain. Keeping an eye for dust buildup and maintaining the quality of the water are probably the two most important indoor fountain care requirements. Use a soft cloth to wipe dust from the fountain, and never use any harsh chemicals or cleaners, especially if any protective or decorative coating has been applied to the fountain. VODA Water Features recommends cleaners that are organic or non-chemical.  Good for the environment or more gentle on your water fountain.  Staying on a monthly routine of looking over your feature and wiping it down will help maintain its beauty as well as keeping long-term build up to a minimum.

I need a new fountain pump, where should I purchase one?
The first step would be to call VODA Water Features at 866-598-1425 with make and model number of the pump and water fountain.  We work with you to identify the next course of action.

The pump seems to be louder than the sound of the water noise, why?
Make sure water level is properly maintained as well as making sure the pump is properly installed in the reservoir.  Most times, if the water level is accurate, setting the pump on foam or scouring pad can reduce the vibration against the reservoir.  If your pump is older, it may be starting to show signs of the end of its life.  In that case, call VODA Water Features and we will be happy to assist in replacement.

Will my water fountain splash?
Typically splashing is a result of the fountain of improper installation.  The instructions that come with your water fountain will have instructions on how to properly set up your fountain.  The level of water in your fountain can also be a cause for splashing.  Be sure your water level is neither too low nor too high.  With most fountains you can also adjust the pump to get optimal water flow.  Another tip, if not provided with your water fountain, is to add some river rocks or pebbles to the basin of your water fountain to prevent splashing.

Will my water fountain have nice water sounds?
Yes, depending on size, distance the water drops into the reservoir, water level and other similar factors will impact the various sounds of water that you will hear.  Most times, adjusting the water level higher or lower will give you more or less sound.  Always keep in mind to keep it above pump level in order to keep you pump working properly.

Do I have to turn my water fountain off at night or when I am away?
Water fountain pumps are meant to run 24/7.  Contrary to most thought, it is better to let your pump run continuously as long as there is enough water to keep the water level high enough for the pump.

How do you install a wall fountain?
All wall fountains will come with instructions and/or video to walk you through the install process step by step.

Is there a special way of keeping a wall fountain or high end water fountain clean?
It’s important to properly clean and care for the fountain whether you’ve chosen a high quality copper with a powder coated finish, or a copper vein finish over metal. Avoid using any harsh chemical cleaners on your fountain, including copper cleaners. If your fountain has a powder coat finish, the copper cleaner will remove the finish. Over time may you notice white spots (otherwise known as “white scale”) on your fountain. A little bit of calcium lime remover will clear that up. Typically your wall fountain shouldn’t require excessive cleaning, but an occasional swipe of the cloth will keep it free of dust and looking its best. Over time the original “showroom” shine might start to fade.  In the event this happens, automotive wax buffed into the frame will help bring back the fountain’s shine.

What is the warranty on these water fountains?
The warranty on each water fountain depends on the fountain.  Typically, there is a one year warranty.

Does my water fountain come with a pump?  What do I need to make my fountain work?
All water fountains should come with a fountain pump.  Just add water and enjoy!

Do I need a water line coming in for my wall fountain?
No, you do not need a water line for most wall fountains.  Most fountains are self-contained and recirculate the water from the reservoir.  Typically, unless it’s a custom design, you manually add water.  In the event you are designing a custom water feature a water line option may be available.

How do I plug my wall fountain in?  Do I need a recessed outlet?
This will depend on what wall fountain you are purchasing.  All wall fountains need an 110V outlet to plug into and most times don’t need to have a recessed outlet.  If you have questions regarding the outlet please give us a call. We will do the research on your behalf.

How do I decide what size wall fountain or free standing fountain I should be looking for?
There are many options when it comes to larger size fountains.  First measure the area you have for the fountain, be sure to consider height, width and depth.  Wall fountains have a various amount of shapes and sizes.  They come in standard sizes or we can offer custom size wall or floor standing fountain if you have a special request.
